Year 3
We welcome the children to start their junior learning experience! Our aim is for all children to settle quickly, make new friends and enjoy all the new experiences that we have to offer.

Chestnut Class’s teacher is Miss Russell and the Teaching Assistant is Mrs Purll.
Holly Class’s teacher is Mrs Bistram and the Teaching Assistant is Mrs Hanley.
Year 3 have PE on Mondays and Thursdays every week so please make sure that PE kits are in school for both days.
Forest School is on every other Friday (the classes alternate, Holly Class starting on the 8.9.23, Chestnut on 15.9.23.) Please make sure your child has suitable warm/waterproof clothing and footwear and bring your school uniform to change into after the session.
Over the next half term, Year 3 have started a 3-week unit on ‘’Brainwaves’. The children will be learning about our brain and how we can use it to learn new things and make connections. We also will be learning how to keep our brain healthy so that we can improve the way we learn. This will be followed by a unit of work called ‘How Humans Work’.
English
In English this term, we will be reading Greta and the Giants and the Pebble in my Pocket and using them to build on our comprehension skills. In writing, we will be focusing on writing poetry based on emotions, narrative descriptions and non-chronological reports. We will be looking closely at poetic devices, developing our descriptive writing and improving our sentences with conjunctions and paragraphs.
Maths
In Maths this term, we will been learning about place value of numbers up to 1,000 and how to add and subtract 1s, 10s and 100s. We will also be learning to order, sequence and compare numbers. We will move onto addition and subtraction later on in the term.
Science
In Science this term, we will be exploring how nutrients help improve brain-power. We will be looking at how neurons make connections in the brain to improve our learning. We will also be recognizing how positive thinking can help us to succeed with our learning.
