Conversion to Academy Status

Dear Parents, Carers and community groups,

Please find below links to two documents which you may wish to read in connection to our proposal to convert to academy status.

The education landscape has changed significantly over the past few years and the effects are far reaching for most school leaders. As you may already know, children at holland Junior School are lucky to be taught in small classes and to benefit from experienced, dedicated teachers along with enjoying our wonderful grounds and facilities. However smaller classes means less funding with which the school can operate. This impacts the resources and experiences we can offer our children and of course, the amount and quality of training and career progression we can offer our staff.

For a number of years our school governors have met with representatives of the local authority to seek common ground from which to move forward and agree a future plan for the school if it were to remain as a local authority community school but we have been unsuccessful. In October of this year, at a meeting for all Surrey Headteachers, the presenter told the audience that joining a multi academy trust (MAT) is “not mandatory but inevitable” and this clearly mirrors the government’s ambition for education provision.

As a governing board, we have determined that remaining as a stand-alone, local authority maintained junior school gives us little security for the future and we are therefore choosing to join a multi academy trust. We stress that this is a choice and not something we are being forced to do. We are a “good” school and have been judged recently by local authority representatives to have no issues with leadership and management or with educational standards and pupil outcomes. As more schools opt to join trusts we are also aware that trusts will reach capacity and our preferred MATs may not be able to accommodate us joining. Hence we believe the time is right for our school to make the move. We anticipate working with a trust will improve outcomes for our pupils, additional opportunities and training for our staff and increased funding along with a secure and sustainable future for the school. We are seeking to join The Pioneer Academy as we believe they share the same ehtos and values as we do.
